Birchbox September 2014

Hey everyone!

I recently recieved my September birchbox and I am quite in love with all of the items I recieved! I did start up a second subscription again after learning about the pick your sample selection this month. They offered up Macadamia healing spray oil, Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate, Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser Starter Kit, and Davines OI/ Conditioner with a bonus shampoo & hair oil packet. After trying the Macadamia healing oil over a year ago, I knew I would love the spray version. So, I started up a second subscription to get another one. The travel size retails for about $15 for about two ounces. So I knew I would get the value of my box with just the one item. I did get into a bit of a snafu with them sending my an august box, but I did end up getting a september box too. Here's what I got:

  • Tocca Hand Crema in Bianca- I absolutely loved this! First, I love the formula of Tocca hand cremas. They are moisturizing, while also smelling amazing. I have the cleopatra and I absolutely love the grapefruit scent. Bianca is Green tea and lemon, and it reminded me of the white tea and ginger scent from Bath and Body Works. Second, the size of the crema was qutie generous. It is 1oz, with the travel size being 2oz and retailing for $10. So the sample alone pays for half of the box. I also really loved the style of the packaging and the fact that it is a flip top rather than a screw off top. All in all, a great sample.
  • Temptu highlighter- This highlighter is from the temptu range of products, but can be used without the airbrush system. I recieved the shade champagne shimmer, which I would describe as a rose gold, rather than a champagne shade. The size I recieved was a .1oz sample. The full size is $27.50. I liked the product in theory, but i found it to be too pink and dark for my liking, but i think a drop of this would be pretty to make a foundation a little more dewy.
  • Hello by Harvey Prince- I have recieved this same scent multiple times from birchbox. It is an okay scent. It reminds me of Jingle G from the harajuku christmas collection a few years ago. I wouldn't run out and buy it, but I will stick it in my bag as a touch up fragrance.
  • Avene cleanance gel- This product is a soapless product, which is meant to clean the skin without overly drying the skin. It is meant to be great for oily and acne prone skin. As someone with oily/acne prone skin, and a lover of french pharmacy products, it was a major hit for me. I felt like it cleaned my skin quite well, and I did see less oil accumulated on my skin the next day. I will say that the runniness of the product posed a bit of a problem because it was a bit difficult to control, but it was a great product to try.
  • Macadamia healing spray oil- This was also a massive hit for me. I loved that it was a bit lighter than the original formula, and the spray pump made it a lot easier and less messy for me. The scent is the same as the oil. I hate the smell because it is quite masculine and strong, but it does remind me of something my late grandfather would wear. Other than that, I think the spray would be perfect for daytime, while the oil would be great as a night mask.
  • Chapstick hydration lock duo- I recieved the duo in Moisturize and Renew. I believe I should have gotten the night and day version, but no big deal. I recieved an older version of the product a while back with my other subscription. I liked it as a lip primer because it doesn't have a glossy finish as other balms do, while also being quite light on the lips. I find that the renew is a bit more healing, and the moisturizing is hydrating and nice as a lip primer for matte lipsticks.

So what did you think of my box? I liked everything in the box. There wasn't a lot of makeup, but I think I will use up each of the samples. I may do a review of the box I should be getting in my main account, but currently they messed up the variation, so I didn't get the macadamia as I should have.

xx, Lexy
